I will be in Corola the first week in August and was wondering if there is a Fly Shop near so I can get my liscence and some info such as what will be active in the surf at that time and what flies will be hot

sorry to say the closest fly shop is 4 hours away. Tws Bait and Tackle in Corolla can sell you your license.
Small flies for the surf---little Clousers and bonefish flies. There might be small blues early and late and during the day croakers, sea mullets (kingfish) and pompanos. you can google fly fishing on the outer banks and there is a website with a forum plenty of good information there. You can PM me and i can send it to you also.

I tied up some clousers , surf candy epoxy flies and some crazy charlies but I used a size 6 hook and my friend said it was too small and the fish would straighten the hook out. What is your opinion
|

fish in the surf during August are generally small--hell if you straighten one out would be a great story.
But with that said all my albie flies are tied on Gamakatsu SL112h #6s for the last 5 years.
