Default Sand Fleas

I have been using sand fleas as bait while surf fishing here in Florida with a lot of success. Catching pompano, sheepshead, black drum, and red drum. I will be moving in NC here soon returning to the Topsail area and I was just curious if fleas are a productive bait there as well. Although I primarily fished off of piers while I was there last I remember fresh shrimp seemed to be the bait of choice from the beach even though fleas were really easy to come by. Im just curious and I would like to hear some other opinions! Thanks all.

Tight lines,
Anthony

Yes sand fleas are a good bait for sea mullet, pompano, black drum....ect. and yes fresh shrimp is a good bait. Seems that a lot of people are in to much of a hurry to start fishing so they buy bait (shrimp) instead of digging fleas. Both will work.

Yes fleas work great in the surf. I always start off a trip with some fresh shrimp for bait. If there are fleas great, but sometimes they are not around the hole I’m fishing so I have a backup. If I can catch some I’ll go back and forth between shrimp and fleas to see which the local fish prefer. Shrimp is my all time favorite general bait, everything in the ocean will eat shrimp!

Sand fleas are one of the best baits you can get. IMHO. I have been there at times when nothing was catching fish but sand fleas. Make up a rig using about 6 dropper loops w/ hooks attached to the loops. Cast out into the wash and if the fish are there you can have some fun.
