Default OBX fishing question

I am goin to Nags Head in August for 0ne week. I surf fish on longisland where I live. What type of equiptment to I need to bring with me to be able to enjoy all the types of fishing the obx have to offer. I have a 10 foot lami for the beach is that enough?? I also want to do some pier fishing and would love to charter a boat for some red drum. What type/size rods and reels do i need to bring with me??? If anyone has a link to where I can get a fishing permit and also any info on some good party boats and charter boats would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys can't wait to get down there

7 foot spinners for the piers--early morning for spanish and bluefish. I grew up doing it and it is big fun.

As for inshore reds--good question. They are not very dependable. Some years we have them in the back and around the inlet and other yrs not so much.

You can check the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center web site for both offshore and inshore charters.

Google North Carolina Wildlife for license.

check out Beachbum fishing. Reese is out OI and is a good guy to fish inshore with. Off shore look up Jeff Ross on the Obession. Archey on the Pelican is good also.

If you fish from a pier they will probably have a blanket license so you will not need one. The same goes if you fish with a charter captain. The short term license is $10.
