Default goin down for cobes in April of May

Hey everyone its been awhile since I've posted, but I'm considering to go to the point and verious other places while I'm there. Last year I went with lil success cept for a big ray. I was hoping that there was somone that either had some good pointers for fishin at the point for cobes or was goin down there and wouldn't mind if I joined em. I've got all my own gear and then some. I'd appreciate the chance to fish with people who had the knowlage of beach fishin and would like to teach others wat they know... Thank you... And I'd also appreciate any tips or "hotspots" in the area down there for spanish and popano also.

Cj! Whats up. Nice of you to stop in.

Ps- I haven't a clue on fishing at the point for cobes. The pier is my specialty. Lol Up here we just sling some cut bait out and hope for the best.

I like south beach for cobes.

Usually i will cut the blue in half or use a whole one if they are small. I find bigger baits catch more cobes. A whole bunker....and ive seen them eat 2 whole bunker. If youre casting obviously you cant cast 2 bunker. But a half bunker works well. Small chunks work of course....but many times the big baits have been the ticket.

Ive tried the live bait slider and never got anything to hit one.

Alright... Thanx... Yea the rig I made us a slider with a huge modification... A 50' 100lb mono leader connected to a 1lb weight on one end and a shark float on the other so the blue or whatever ur bait is can have a greater distance to swim around and won't be pushed back to shore by the waves. Plus it goes from the surface to the bottom which I would think would be a lil more efective. But u have to yak it out, that's the only draw back.

Do u ever have a problem with crabs? Do u use a lil float 2 keep the bait off the bottom? And I'm also guessin u walk out on the bar 2 cast?

crabs are sometimes a proiblem but not overly so. I dont use a float. You have to be careful with how long leaders get, sometimes its crowded. Ive had blues swim for 4 hours just clip it on my rod that I ytaked out and let it slide down........just have to watch the currents and boats working shore. They sometimes run over our lines. We will use a TLD 20 to paddle out and drop them 400 or 500 yards out sometimes.

as for distance???? well ive seen cobes cruise in 2 fee to f water 20 feet from the beach, its just a matter of where they are really. If they are way out then we yak in close we cast. The key is green water, when the water is murky we havnt done much of anyhting.

In '08 the CONsent decree closed the most productive Cobia fishing beach. But there were still a few caught from what little beach was accessable.

The CONsent decree will start earlier in '09 and could close more beach sooner, we don't know yet.

CS I said; "But there were still a few caught from what little beach was accessible." It will not be wide open like 2007 or before, this will be due to the CONsent decree.

Have you talked to your Federal Legislators lately? Have you donated money to the beach access groups, this year. Are you fighting, for the cause, or waiting for the outcome?

My take on this; if you are not totally involved, you ain't doing much.

dont hate me... but to be honest, yes i love fishing, but my views on this whole "beach closing thing" is much different than most of the older more experanced fisherman. i agree that you should let nature take its coures, but awhile back in the albemare and croatan sound they cut off striper fishing because the population became too low (i wasnt fishing then, idk if i was even alive) but i know i wouldn't have an objection with thier choice there and neither would most others on this site, but when it comes to birds its compleatly different?!

now dont go into defence mode and jump on me for having a different view than everyone else. and just so i can be halfway desent thers is one bird that i hate, and thats the cormorant, and i could care less bout that bird cause theres just way too many of them...

CJ, it is not about the birds. It is all about throwing the humans out of CHNS. You want to come here & fish, the enviro's don't want you on the beach. The enviro's don't give a damn about the birds, birds are a convenient excuse to force you and me off the beach. If you were a member of any of the pro-access groups, OBPA www.OBPA.org, NCBBA www.ncbba.org or www.capehatterasanglersclub.org, you would have been receiving regular updates about what is happening here.

Please go to www.islandfreepress.org and read the entire "beach access issues" and get an understanding of what is going on here.

As I said earlier, the good Cobia beachs will be closed for human use before the Cobia arrive. Get mad, get involved. There is a lot YOU can do.

You are very much right yhs I don't have an understanding, mainly because I'm young and am not very big on beach fishin. I will take a look at those sites and I'd I have what it takes 2 get involved then I'll do that too!

But all I really wanted was tips and info for fishin for cobes from the beach lol... But I guess this has 2 be done b4 everythin can fall back into place
