Question OBX vacation

I've never been to the OBX, this fall will be the first time. I was wondering if any of you locals could answer some questions for me. I need info on surf fishing and kayaking there (Sept.). Also which area is the best if you want to avoid most of the crowds, but you can still find accomodations? The OBX are a bigger area than I first realized. I have no idea which area is best. Thanks if you can help.

not a local but there alot,
1= check for closers on the beach, if they are going on, all will be crowded.
2= last sept was pretty good for me, fished the northern end of the island.
this being your 1st time, check with any tackle shops and they will be more then helpful. ( this is what I have found in the past )

I go every July, truthfully, the beaches are never crowded, the restaurants are. Barring storms, September is great, still beach weather and the crowds are gone. As for surf fishing, in July its vitually non-existant, not sure about September. late December and January for bass.

The nicest houses are in the Duck- Corolla area, but I like South Nags Head as its less costly and the oceanfront homes are right on the beach, some of the larger oceanfront homes in the Duck area are a jaunt away from the surf. Both spots offer nearby (free) 4WD access.

If your looking for motels instead of houses, you'll do best from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head area, a few right on the beach.
