Default Pawley's Island, SC - Xmas through NY's

Sorry for posting it here but this was the closest section available, geographically speaking that is.

Anyhow, thinking about heading down to Pawleys Island between Christmas and New Years. The wife has family down there and I thought fishing would be the perfect excuse ........... I mean reason ........ to stay away from them.

I was down there last Xmas and fished two small bridges on the North and South Causeway Roads on the actual island. Had decent luck with mostly TB flounders. Good action, just not much size. Weather was also pretty decent this time last year.

If I go, I would like to get out on the beach if there is any reason to. I believe trout, reds and maybe some black drum typically can be found that time of year. Is that true?

My first preference would be to get on the kayak and hit the backwater creek/marsh there but if all I am going to find is more small flounders, I would prefer to target bigger action.

Last time I went, they were doing work on the parking lot on the southern end. That limited me to finding a side alley parking slip where I could walk across the dune (via a path between the houses) onto the beach. Just north of where I entered the beach appeared to be a small inlet - maybe into that creek/marsh area. During T-giving, I didn't see much action around but I didn't get a chance to try it out for myself.

Is the Xmas/New Years time frame on average a decently producing time? Or, like other places, have most of the fish already headed out of further south?

Most fish have gone further south by that time of year. There are some trout and redfish around but they are few and far between. Best bet is backwater like you said.
