Default ORV open areas? October

I know sometimes the answer to these questions is, "Your guess is as good as mine!" but does anyone know the status of ORV access areas in the fall? I am coming down in early/mid October and was hoping to fish areas such as Rodanthe, North of Oregon Inlet, and maybe the Point at Buxton.

Also, any tips on where I might land some fish at this time? Don't really care what it is, but perhaps a drum/speck/shark would be nice as I have never caught them down there.

Well at least fall drum season wont be lost with the permit.

best bet is check the NPS web site as well as various other OBX fishing boards for up to date closures. Also check in witht he bait shops once there they will knwo the latest.

The Point at Buxton should be open early to mid October. Going down myself the first week in October. Check out Ramp 55 below the Ocracoke Ferry. Also Ramp 49 at Frisco can prove productive. You can always find places to fish. The beach closure issues have been a major problem and the fight continues but as we move into the fall season, hopefully more beach access will open up. Stop in at the Red Drum Tackle Shop in Buxton for and they can provide the most current information and any tackle needs too. Good luck. The time you are going could find some drum, bluefish and some of the summer fish, like flounder should still be around.

Default Thanks

So with the "overnight permit" all you have to do is read and sign? No additional charge is needed for this permit?

what it does is it put you on the hook for any violation yuo make. Your signature means you both know and understand the rules, and will comply with them.

Nah, just an occasional extended nap.

It's funny though. A walk-over can haul his hung-over carcass across the dunes, flop on a blanket and sleep all day and that's cool. But I can fish my awse off until 2 in the morning, climb into the back of my truck for a 3 hour nap before dawn and get rousted for "illegal camping".
