Default Night Surf Fishing on OBX

Anyone do any night-fishing from the surf in OBX? Any success? What's out there at night? Stripers? Sharks? Nothing?

Per NPS: "NPS is in the process of developing a permit to allow night driving between September 16 and November 15." No permit will be required after Nov 15.

Reports are that there will be no fee for the permit and no limit on the number allowed. There will be some sort of "education" required, maybe just a brochure to read.

I've had good results fishing at night in the fall. Red Drum in Sept and Oct, big stripers in Nov and Dec. Sharks any time.

Interesting they are talkign about a permit. Kinda like the old pea island permit? We had to sit through a tape or something as I recall.

Night is the way to go for sure for drum. If I cant get on the sand at night I wont be there period.

Only to vehicles. You can walk to a spot and fish at night,as long as it isn't within a closure.. There is need to worry though,I'm hearing they are trying to get Padre off the exemption list,it will be no problem for them to zap Portsmouth as well... Never thought I'd see the day our government (DOI) was told what to do by special intrest, and followed along with them like a whipped puppy, but that day is here.....

Pea Island permits are a piece of cake, can get those on the internet.. If they make them that easy to obtain, then it will be a snap...

Default Driving on he beach!!!

OH NOOOOOO,,, it is easier than that,,, you stop at the visitors center and pick up a permit and YOU sign it !!!!! That is about all there is to it, other than to abide to the rules of "the road"!

all the tackle shops have them as well. You have to stop for bait, so might as well sign it when you are there......

Our group of fishing buddies fishes the OBX at night and does well on drum, especially large drum. More truly large drum (40" and up) are caught at night than during the day, at least where we fish. My guess is that they feel safer coming into the shallower water under the cover of darkness. We have also caught bluefish, sea mullet, sharks, rays, and various other species at night.
