I'm taking vacation in Carova Sept. 9th and was wonder if anyone has any experiance fishing this area during this time of year. I'm kinda of a rookie when it comes to surf fishing but was hoping some more seasoned folks could help a brotha out as to what might be out there. I've alway stayed further south but never had much luck surf fishing...confession I did catch some nice ray's on Emerald Isle one year. Any help would be appreciated.

Default Carova

The beaches up there are flatter than down south so there is less structure to fish. However there are usually a few holes to be found. The water temps should hopefully be dropping a little by then and you should be able to catch the usual blues, spot, croaker, mullet, and there should be some puppy drum around as well. Bring a cast net with you.

There are a few tackle shops in Corolla before you hit the ramp. TW's in the Food Lion shopping center and Corolla B&T in the Harris Teter shopping center. Both can help you out.

How far up are you staying?

what kinda cast net? how big of an opening 1/4 or something bigger like 1/2? How much weight? I bought one last year @ Tn Ws I couldnt catch sh** with it. Seemed like it would sink fast enough.

Dewy, Thanksfor the info. I'm going to be about halfway up the beach for the typical week stay. Hopefully I'll land a few for dinner.

Default Net

Beachtoad, I throw a small 4 ft net and I'm unsure of the mesh size or weight as I don't have here with me. I got it from Cabelas a few years back as the other one I had was to big for me. This net has a ring around the top of it the makes it a whole lot easier to throw. It may be cheating, but it cuts down on the aggravation factor! It works perfectly for getting the mullet in the surf.
