Angry Fishing or Not in OBX ????

I'm planning on coming to Hatteras Area in late June-early July. Will it be worth coming or not? Can we fish in that area? What's the deal going on? I can't imagine them (Gov't Officials) actually closing that area to fishing if it brings so much revenue. Is that the case? If I can't change my plans, damnit......where can I fish at?

i'm sure you will be able to find someplace to fish there .
might not be able to drive on the beach , but walk over somewhere should be doable ..
it is going to be a day to day thing for awhile ...

So is the whole thing about driving on the beach or fishing too? I've been coming to OBX for a while and fishing and I can't imagine not being able to. So what's the verdict?

Fish-N-Bud,
There are still alot of good areas to fish. Look for a break in the bar or a tight bar with an outcropping on either side. Yes, the best areas are off-limits, but please don't this deter you from supporting the local business's in the OBX. They all need our support to survive.

I hear ya loud and clear FishDaddy. I'm all about supporting the local bait shops and mom and pop places.

Fishdaddy's right - there are other places to fish. There's some sweet soundside spots as well. I'm still going with my family the last 2 weeks of June. I had already commited before all this mess with the clsures and I'm most concerned about being able to drive on with the family. South Beach is great during the day for the family and I go out either in the evening or the am to other spots without them to do some fishing. I had some great luck last year on the soundside at dusk. We have a place on the water so it makes it convenient once dinner is done.

The closures include all access, so no walking, driving, etc. If you're not a bird, you can't be there.

There are some other places open, but new closures seem to come out daily. I fear it's going to get worse before it gets better. But I've heard that if you use your kayak, you can paddle to the point. So the point itself is technically "open", but all the ways to get to it on land are closed.

Hey SalT,
What about those soundside spots. Can you still get back around Hatteras Inlet? Any other you want to disclose?

F-n-b, if you look at Frank and Frans web site, under fishing reports, you will see an up to date list of all the closings, there is very little left to drive on, and less when the villages restrictions kick in, some more room for walk-overs but it is a right smart hull. Might be more room [and fish also] on Ocacoke.
