Wink

I moved to Beaufort NC from Bradley Beach NJ a month and a half ago. So far I'm having a tough time finding good fishing access that doesn't require a boat (i miss my monmouth county jetties) but this seems to be the slow fishing time of the year right now, so I'm not discouraged yet. Other than that, two thumbs way up. Funny, but that weird twitch I'd get in my eye driving in Jersey traffic has all but disappeared.

Can't say for sure about moving the business, but this area has enough of a year round crowd that I'd say it's feasible. Like anywhere else, there's certainly people making a good living down here. Up in jersey it was all suits and "executive VP in charge of blah blah blah". Down here, it seems to be the small business owners.

But, now that I live here...if you do come down, keep it quiet. We don't want to be overrun by all you Jersey arseholes.

Fishfood, Did you ever manage to hook up with Eric? He should have been able to point you in the right direction. If not stop in and see me at the B&T shop on the Left side of Atlantic Beach causeway just before you get to the light. I work most evenings (except Thursday & Sunday). I don't know about spots around Beaufort, but I can give you spots around Radio Island, Fort Macon State park, Old Iron Steamer Pier and some others.

That would have been the boss/owner, and yes he does nice work. Look forward to seeing you in May. I hope I'll have an excellent fishing report for you. Right now it's kind of hot and cold with these fronts passing through.

Yup, I hooked up with Eric. He pointed me in the right direction and I've been fishing Radio Island/Fort Macon/etc a good bit. My problem is I usually fish odd hours, and a lot of those places have parking lots/access that shuts down at 8pm or so. But I don't want to steal joe's thread... I just need to explore more.

I'll stop by the shop and say hello sometime. From where you describe it's location, is it right by Freeman's?

Fishing for weakfish (gray trout) is hot right now at the Olde Towne Yacht Club beach on Radio Island. I worked around there on Sunday with the trolling motor and caught at least fifty....kept four for dinner. They ranged anywhere from 10" to 21"....a good mix. Slightly out of range for the beach casters it seemed, I didn't see them catch one. Gulp shrimp on a jig head...super slow retrieve bouncing bottom. I tried live mud minnows, but not a bite on them. Coulda just been that they wanted Gulp. A good setup that can cast 100 yards or slightly more would be sufficient....what they were throwing on Sunday, I'll never know...couldn't make 50-75 from what it appeared. As usual, morning and evening are best...with a tidal current. If you catch a dogfish, just quit and go home.

Big bluefish are hot around the CG Station pier on the corner, up to 12lbs so far...along with trout if you can sneak in close enough. More trout were caught on Saturday in the channel by the highrise bridge leading into Radio Island Marina....all you wanted. You should be able to hook up fishing the deep side of the FM State Park by the CG fenceline.

Beaufort 'proper' really doesn't have any access other than by the bridge.

Heard of some blues (as in marlin) being hooked at the Big Rock. Three more weeks of yard work and we'll be back in the water, prepping for the BR Blue Marlin tournament. Gonna try to get a trip or two in before then.

Currently rebuilding my boat trailer in the evenings after work....so that boat is locked down for a few more days as well.

edit: I should add that some redfish can probably be had by wading the bays on the north side of the MHC/Beaufort causeway between the bridges....along with a speckled trout or two I would suspect.

More: Take 70 out of Beaufort towards Harkers Island....you will come to the North River bridge....park....get out....wade out into the river on the north side/west end of the bridge. Speckled trout in there....go waist deep, watch for holes, go easy....Gulp shrimp on jig head.

I should add to the topic of the thread.

There are a couple or more businesses of that type already here....but, not to say yours won't work. We are a funny people here....one screwed up job and it's all over....spreads like wildfire. If you do good work for a reasonable price, you will get business....that, and it helps to know someone "local". I would say that a 'niche' for your business would be to also include "sportfisher and yacht carpet cleaning"...it you have the portability to get out to the docks at marinas. I know I do ours by 'shopvac' and a scrub brush.

ROFLMAO,

It would help if you learnt how to speak Southern.

Just kidding. (mostly kidding, partly serious).

BTW, "Howsyomommandthem?"

If you understand that, you might do O.K. If not, you may want to re-consider.

Ah, what the hell, go for it. Its your butt, not mine.

Seriously, its very tough just to relocate/move the family from one region to another. To move a self employed/owned business would scare the hell out of me. Tread lightly.

I wish you the best in your decision.

You must use heavier jig heads than me, or have a much better setup. I can throw some things 100 yards... a jig head w/ a gulp shrimp ain't one of 'em.

Another thing to think about, joec. Lots of places are currently hiring for seasonal work..sooner rather than later. So if you wanted a second, parttime gig while you set your business up, summer is the time to be here.
