Default Surf Fishing - End of April

A friend will be visiting the Outer Banks during the last week of April (spring break for his kids). He asked me about the surf fishing (ocean beach / not sound) and what is typically used (equipment) / caught this time of the year. Since the OBX are not my home turf, I figured I would post here and see what SOL members say. He will be staying in Duck.

Hey tell your buddy the water temps around here are not in its prime but he can still catch fish.. Tell him to start off using standard bottom rigs add weight according to the current 2oz-4oz, get 2/0-4/0 snelled hooks that come already rigged, for bait start with frozen squid strips, fresh shrimp, or blood worms...That should be good for croaker, flounder, mullet, skates etc..Hope this helps...PEEWEE..

The fishing in the duck area is generally pretty slow in april - it has been a cold spring so far. Snapper sized bluefish and maybe some blowtoads or sea mullet. Tell him to stop in at Bob's B+T in duck to get the local scoop. I would normally say head south but the orv situation but we might not have access. You are welcome for the support.
