Default need help

good morning I am in the process of planning my first obx vacation and I am really looking forward to it. I do however need some advice from the pros here as I am from the northeast and I am sure its going to be quite a different ballgame down there. Heres what I know I will be driving down with the family in april and again in july or august, which is better and what can be caught from the surf. I do have a boat and there is a possability I will be towing it down but I kind of doubt it. I have not settled on a house to rent yet, whats the best erea for surf fishing that time of year? Also are any permits/licences needed and can they be had online? I am looking to rent right where I want to fish. What should I throw other than bucktails, willthe species that are running take swimmers, pencils ect? I want to say thank you in advance for all your help in planning our first obx experience I and my family thank you

If your going toward Buxton and that area.Probably want to try the point. Its out toward the lighthouse and just go up the ramp and take a right lol. Youll find it. I go down in the summer...and there is much to catch. Pompanos, Bluefish, Cobias are common. Sharks are caught alot, so if you wanna go sharking. Go ahead. I hope that helps a little

I prefer the summer but most people say spring/fall. In the spring you can catch R.drum, sea mullet (roundheads), croker?, spotted sea trout, gray sea trout, skate, dogfish and posibly flounder. Summer time= shark, cobia, bluefish, spot, croker, king/spanish mackeral, trout, flounder, puppy drum and a couple others.
Try meatls, got-chas(swimming plugs), jigs, cut/live bait. I like going futher south to fish on the beach summer, and even further during spring.

yes you do need licences go to the NC wildlife web site and look for Licences/Permits/Regisration/Titling

Pappy, April, when you come(date/week) is important. Early April go the the southern part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Ocracoke Island is the place to be, when the SW wind blows big drum into the beach. Cut bait is the trick. Have you heard the term 8&B8(8oz sinker,7/0-10/0 hook, big piece of Menhaden)? With that a drum from 10-60lb can be caught. Bring your stoutest rod & reel, if you only have a rod rated 4oz bring it & fish it. You will have to fish a little farther from the current rip we are fishing, but the big fish swim up the shore.

Mid April, if the wind has been good to us, the next place to be is Buxton. That is where Cape Point is. As with the south end of Ocracoke there is big current, so big weight & bait is the norm. There is very productive water right next to the current where 4oz is plenty.

Late April, Any place from Hatteras Inlet up to Nags Head is good.

Along with the big drum, spot, croaker, kingfish(whiting), both species of trout, cobia, Spanish mackerel, and several types of sharks will be swimming by. In July everything mentioned will be around along with huge amounts of tourists.

Come on down and enjoy. If you come down in early April and only come as far south as Nags Head, fishing can be real slow. The catching will be 70miles south.
