This was the way I started out making these leaders a few years ago. I learned it from Torpedo over at the old Coast-Shark.com (BeachBum closed the doors on that place a while back. Nowadays, [*****************]****************[/url] is the surf sharking hangout.) I still make them pretty much the same way, but there have been a few adaptations and variations along the way as conditions dictated.
This leader is designed for casting from shore. An OM12Heavy and Penn 555gs spooled with 30# mono would be an ideal setup for this stuff. You can get by with regular drum-sized stuff (sl30sh, 535gs, etc), but you may very well end up wishing you had more line on the reel, more drag, or heavier mono so you could use more drag.
You'll want to use a standard shock leader of 60-80# mono in front of the pulley rig. Tie on at the swivel marked 6 in the photo.
Here's what you need to get started: (6-12ft) 300# mono
(4) 2.2mm black double sleeve crimps
(2) 250# barrel swivels
(1) Coastlock swivel (not load bearing, so pretty much anything will do)
(1) hook
crimping tool.
This is the correct way to crimp a double sleeve. Note the flared ends and gap between the two crimped spots. You can make the clipdown from a trimmed J hook, a heavy paperclip, or a bit of piano wire. This one was a little long- I trimmed it back another 1/2" or so after the photos were shot.Tape the clipdown along the leader with electrical tape. This is a finished leader. All it needs now is a sinker, hook, and bait.
TimS sorry if the link is comm.

lI thought I was in trouble I was like ---- I just joined man what did I do haha! Thanks man, much appreciated. That says 400# mono, have you ever used mono? I know you recommended steel/piano or whatever the wire is. I was under the impression that a shark would work it's way through that mono. Thanks.

derf, I'm sorry I thought it was "commercial" links, but a I found it off another thread so I thought it was Ok.

Rob S, I prefer cable because a shark is less likely to chew threw it. but I have caught smaller sharks on 200# mono
