NC aquarium & the State + Dare Co own the land & pier. What has been in the paper is the rebuilding of a concrete pile wood deck pier will start this year. Just wait it should last for a long time.

While it won't be as it was, I will be glad to see that landmark back up. Spent many a summer vacation on that old wooden pier starting in 1965. Stayed in the rooms that lined the parking lot then moved up to the block cottages behind them for many more. Brings back many, many good memories because thats where I learned to saltwater fish. I can still see old man Jennett in the pierhouse.

NAGS HEAD

Jennette's Pier is finally in state hands, clearing the way for the complete rebuilding of the North Carolina Aquariums' first ocean pier.

With transfer of the property from the nonprofit North Carolina Aquarium Society accepted at Tuesday's Council of State meeting, the transformation of the storm-shaved pier, pier house and 5.12-acre lot will be able to begin after nearly five years of uncertainty.

Neal Conoley, the society's president, said the most recent delay in the transfer was a result of state legislation passed during the last General Assembly session that required a 30-day comment period on property valued at more than $50,000.

He said the final step, the transfer of the deed, is expected within a week.

The bulk of the $12 million project will be paid for by $8 million to $9 million available in the aquariums' admission receipts fund, Conoley said. The balance will come from future fee revenue.

Fees collected at state aquariums on Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores and Fort Fisher, he said, are shared by the three facilities.

With 500 feet of pier lost during Hurricane Isabel in 2003 - just six months after the society purchased it - the new pier will be much stronger.

The proposal calls for a 1,000-foot concrete pier with a wooden deck and railings. It will be attached to a two-story concrete pier house that will include a tackle shop, an arcade and food service on the first floor.

Upstairs, there will be spaces for educational programs, community events and even private celebrations.

Conoley said the intention is to build piers in the future for the other two aquariums.

Demolition at Jennette's is expected to start this winter, Conoley said. The small cottages on the site have been offered to the town and county governments to move for use as affordable housing.

That's bs if they don't allow pin-rigging. It'll be bad enough if they ban sharkin

I'm sure they are not going to let you target big Sharks off the pier. The Pin-rig is iffy. I think they will let the pin-rigging go on with an extra charge.

What is the problem with pin rigging in most eyes? The only thing I see as a problem is that 95% of guys who pay to get on a pier don't fish pin rigs and may want to fish the end some. Which is usually impossible. I have had times where I was out early and had a spot at the end to myself when the regular king guys showed up and basically squeezed me out. Most of these guys are out there at the end all summer and the end almost becomes their personal property. Its a tough call to make. I know down further south in SC I have been on piers where you do pay extra to use the end of the pier where you can pin rig or if you pay the extra money for the end you can fish the spot any way you want.

All the piers I've pin-riged at your not allowed to bottomfish at the end, because its reserved for the end and personaly I think sence I have to pay 5$ to 10$ more it seems fare.
