Are you talking off the beach/piers? If that's the case then dog sharks are pretty much it this time of year. Offshore more you never know, I seem to run into some big threshers when i'm out looking for bluefin tuna. In a month or two I see schools of hammer heads. That's the great thing about fishing in this area, where the Gulf stream and the labrador current meet, we are on the southren end of the northern fish and the northern end of the southern fish. You just never know what is going to bite your hook.

If you head on down to Buxton Point you will get a better variety of sharks with the warmer temps. (Doggies are everywhere. Not in the same quantity that I had seen in years past but its pretty hard not to get one when your using bait.) I know last year they were catching a bunch of bigger sharks this time of the year(6 foot or bigger range). I am personally not into sharking from surf or boat but I don't have a problem with you or anyone doing it especially since you are releasing them. BTW, in the summer some of the northern piers used to house some of the best non boat sharkers around in the 70's-80's. Lots of fish killed and weighed in for records. Thats just how it was back then. If you go into one of the piers they have a museum with some awesome old time photo's and other fish mounts.

Derf, If those are from guys fishing thats about as sad as it gets. I see the same thing with doggies a lot. Like I said I don't go sharking and the main reason behind it is I would wuss out trying to release these fish the right way.

no Derf im not, they are definitely in the surf however seeing two in the same spot makes me think they were disguarded at the same time and tide meaning pulled from a net. I could be wrong, both cases it sucks.

If that pic was from last week it prob was a net that killed those sharks as carolina's rockfish net season was during that time

Cobia seeker, I'll answer your question. Avalon-S. Nags Head has few if anny sharks this time of year. Water temps and lack of food are the reasons. Bait is way off-shore Stripers are few and north, out, and just not here, so nothing for sharks to eat.

See above about 70mi south, no Stripers in close sharks in close & dead on the beach.
