thought this was close enough......well, my friend was lucky enough to get a boat for christmas.... Him nor I have the experience or prob. the tackle necessary to have a full bucket by the end of the day. He has a house in Hilton Head SC and this is where he will be docking fishing out of his boat. Its actually the single dock across from the Salty Dog. He received a 12 Ft 6 HP boat so we aren't going to be going too far out... I just want to know what kind of tackle, rigs, rods and reels, etc etc, we will need to have a good time. Money isn't exactly a problem for him so i told him i would do the research and he was pretty much going to force it onto his parents haha. Thanks for your time, any and every piece of advice would be awesome!

Considering the boat and where it'll take you, I offer the following:
Location: ICW into the creeks and such amongst the marshes. Gear: -Reputable brand of 'light' to 'medium' spinning reels and rods to match. -I prefer Power Pro braid (30lb) with a flourocarbon leader of 12-17lb with a length of 2-8 feet...depending on where and what I'm fishing for. -1/4-3/8 oz leadhead jigs in white/red/chartreuse. -Gulp! 3" Shrimp in white or glo to put on the jigheads. -Rubber grubs in the 3" range of various colors to put on the jigheads. -1/4-1 oz egg sinkers -#5 or smaller swivels -Hooks from #1 to 2/0 -Sinker sliders and 'bank' sinkers from 1/2-2oz to make flounder rigs for drifting. -Mirrorlures in 'mirrominnow', 'suspending', 'catch 2000'. -Minnow trap (galvanized) -Cast net in the 4-7ft range...go small if you've never used one. This time of year you should be able to find trout and redfish......but flounder are still around as well now and then. Good Luck! |
