All the shops on the island I went to the past few years around the new year had eels. The problem I have had in the past with that particular spot is getting to the fish. The easiest way is to hookup a generator and a big floodlight hanging over the water. This will bring in baitfish and will bring the stripers up into the light. If you can find a way to get your eel down deep right around the base of the pilings in the current (which I couldn't figure out) then you don't need the light. I never saw many stripers caught away from the bridge. Mostly just right around the pilings or in the lights. I think sometimes the biggest problem is that most guys do use floodlights and the fish then congregate around those lights. If you want an almost sure bet do the floodlight setup and just jig storm shads through the lights. I would love to hear how guys approach that bridge without a light and have had success on stripers.

You want to see scary take a look at some of the other smaller bridges around. There was one that made the scene from Indiana Jones where he walks through the tunnel of bugs look like cake. Its bad enough I delt with it that night but the next morning i had 3 big roaches(3 inchers) spill out of my bag on the beach.

I have run into some scary guys on the catwalk but usually they won't bother you unless you tangle up with them or step on their rod or tackle when passing by.....

OBX, does get some crazy people these days. I was almost mugged on the beach at 3am last year right behind my hotel. And I also met Bonnie and Clyde one year........ Best advice: Bring a bud and prepare to use your rod as a weapon.

Geeze, I spend 30-40 days on Hatteras a year and have never had anything like that happen to me. Corse I also have never fished the catwalk either...

Yeah, theres a smaller bridge and the catwalk area on it is strange. It's like a hollow box area behind you and fishermen have stuff it all full of trash. The roaches that came out to play after dark were bad. Of course this was coming from someone who had never seen a roach before in my life. But seriously some were 3+ inches. Some of the bugs weren't roach but just as scary. I'm gonna stick to the beaches A LOT more this year when i come down.

I think its called the Manns Harbor bridge. Nothing usually going on back that far in late Dec-Jan but we gave it a shot last year anyway.
