Default A little help

Me and my buddy are planning on going down Dec 27th - Jan 5th...
Going down to fish 24 hours a day for the 8 days

So...Live in NJ -Sea Bright -(bassicaly Sandy hook) Plug from the beach or when on the boat rubber with jig heads, bucktails, or bait

What is biting that time of year typically?
Hows the beach fishing?
Worth taking the boat down?
without spot buring what would be a good plan?
Typical plugs used...? bombers, metal lip, penicl?
Thanks in advance for you help...

That time of year is 'supposed' to be really hot......however, like every other year, it depends on where the stripers are. Last year, they never really made it past the va/nc line in good numbers. But typically, they should be there in numbers. There should be some blues around. And there should also be good specs to catch.

If you are fishing from the beach, its totally going to depends on where the fish are. Be prepared to travel all the way up past carolla to the va line. Typically, you don't really need to travel south any further than the south side of oregon inlet below the jetty. Follow the birds, and read the reports....thats about all you can do.

If money (fuel) wasn't an issue, i would definitely take the boat. Sound fishing should be hot for resident stripers up around manns harbor. If the ocean (wind) is cooperating, then the shoals of the inlet should produce. Drifting the inlet works well. All you really need to do is follow the boats....

Bait fishing is pretty simple. The eel bite should be starting to taper off by then, but still might produce. If not, bunker will be the ticket. As for, artificials, anything you throw has a chance of producing fish. Bucktails, spoons, plugs, plastics....etc

Hope this helps at least a bit.....
