Didn't know where else to put it - I didn't see a "South Carolina" section to utilize.
I am heading down to Pawleys Island this week for T-giving. Will be there from Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon. Planning to atleast hit the surf Friday for a good stretch. I know nothing about this area. I've fished OBX and some MD/VA beaches a good bit but never down in this area. I've heard that it is quite different than the fishing off Haterass but I can't seem to find any specifics. Can anyone give me any information? Anything at this point would be useful. Favorable locations to fish (I've heard the north or south end of the island). Bait of choice (mullet, bunker, shrimp?) Fish in the area (blues, stripers, reds, etc?) Rigs (I guess that would be based more on what fish are there). Tides (when have people had good luck). Time of day (same as above). ANY information would be appreciated. I am a total novice to this area. Thanks in advance. Will aka Hannibal |

there are no stripers south of cape fear, NC( except the freshwater ones in the coastal rivers, which can be caught in the saltwater side of saltwater divinding line along the ICW). bait of choice is mullet( very easy to catch with cast net). use fish finder rigs with about 1 to 3 ounce sinker is usually enough. red drum, bluefish, spotted seatrout, and weakfish are are common. they can all be caught on freshly sliced mullet. north end is my perference, they are digging sand to be removed at south end, which may be closed. hungtinton beach, north of pawleys island is another great spot, but you have to pay to et into the park and walk 2 miles to the jetty, which is one of the very best spots in SC for shore- based red drum fishing( at the end of the jetty which is at least 30 feet deep.

Huntington Park sounds great but there's no way I am walking 2 miles with all my crap. LOL. Maybe I will check out the ICW or the north end of Pawleys.

It's more like about a mile to the jetty, and about a 45 minutes walk. It's pretty doable, and is probably your best bet now. Fish live shrimp or mud minnows on carolina or float rigs near the rocks for flounder, spottail, and trout, and use fiddlers on a carolina rig for sheepshead. You may still be able to pick some fat whiting and flounder out of the surf in PI as well using fresh or live shrimp.
