Default Visit in Spring/early Summer????

I live in MA and will be visiting family who live in Jacksonville, NC. I have visited several beaches in the past, for surfing and found Bogue's Inlet Peir to be my favorite for several area's. I last visited three years ago and did not do any fishing. I mostly fish for striper's and blues up here, but was wondering what I could find in surf down there in the spring/early summer. Any input on bait, lures, or species would be appreciated.

Don't think you'll need anything heavy during that time (or anytime down here for that matter). On the pier or just east of the pier (Bogue Inlet that is) has been pretty good traditionally. Bogue Inlet (west end of the island) has been pretty productive and now has limited public parking. Ft. Macon/Beaufort Inlet on the east end of the island has always been pretty good with the rock jetty and surrounding beaches. The only problem will be limited access as it is a state park and generally opens around 8 AM and closes around 6PM. Lots of good tackle shops in the area. Depending upon the water temp when you come will determine what fish are around. Spanish and Blues will probably be the majority of what you catch on the ocean side, maybe a puppy drum or two. ErikF has been wearing the flounder out, so if he leaves any thats a possibility as well . If you are interested there are some good guides that can take you offshore, near shore or even in the sounds depending upon what you want to catch. Trout are also a possibility, again depending upon what time and water temps.
