I know this is a bit south for most on this forum but the wife chose OIB as opposed to a second trip back to HI this year. Can any tell me what might be running that far south this time of year?

There should be some good flounder fishing around the beaches and Inlet.Lots of bait in the surf so take a castnet with you. Also there should be some nice speckled Trout around.Off the piers maybe some spots and plenty of Bluefish are still around.

Get you some Gulp! 3inch shrimp...carolina rig it with a 1/2 oz egg sinker...cast it around any structure (docks/etc.) for flounder. No need to bounce, or you can if you want, simply drag it back slow...feel the thump, let it sit for a few seconds, then slowly lift to feel for weight, set hook. OR, fishbites/shrimp(small pieces)/bloodworm on #4 hooks, double hook rig, for spots just about anywhere. OR use the same Gulp! carolina rig in the creeks for speckled trout. Surf fishing may show spots, specks, flounder, pompano, etc.....this IS the time for fishing!!
This weekend, the False Abacore/little tunny were super thick just off the beaches of Atlantic Beach. Good Luck! Don't forget your saltwater license. |

Thanks for the quick responses. Good news on the trout. I'll probably get a chance to fish the intercoastal as well as the surf so I should do OK. I'm only going for 4 days so I'll have to make the best of it.
Thanks for the reminder on the license. I purchased an annual one before I went to Frisco in June but I had taken it out of my wallet. I'll be sure to put it back in tonight. |

Try creekmouths on outgoing tide with finger mullet / gulp on jig. Cast into the rip current & let it drift / bounce on bottom for flounder / drum. Specks may chase a faster retrieve... They're there, just gotta findem.

I was fishing the backside of OI and Sunset beach last week and fishing was pretty good. Flounder, specs and some puppy drum. There's alot of bait in the water. on the front, small blues and some flounder. If you have a boat, the ICW is good this time of year.

The really big flounder are moved off. The spawning sized fish leave en mass in October. Some big ones leave during the first 2 weeks of Nov. and then the flounder will range from small to 4lbs. except for a rarity. Specks are the best bet with some puppy drum. Offshore you can find a great grouper bit on the bottom or move offshore for schoolie kings. Good luck
