we are taking the ferry from Ocracoke to Swanquarter on a tuesday morn. From there heading North back towards Ny. We want to stop and spend the nite along the way near the coast towards the north Va. or Md. Any suggestions on some cool places. To fish and hang out.

yes. Thinking Dover area. That puts us 6-7 hrs from home for the next days ride.

ok ,
chincoteague , anywhere around ocean city md , the deleware shore towns ( fenwick island , dewey , lewes , etc ) ... all of theses are not far from dover and are "beach towns " they are an easy 'short-cut' just take rt 113 at pocomoke md ..

I realize you may be taking the swanquarter ferry for the fun of the ride... its is a nice way to travel.
But if fun is not the goal, and since you are heading up 13 from va beach area, it is probably faster to drive up hatteras way to nags head and up to va beach. Swanquarter ferry is 2.5 hours roughly, and it leaves you deep in slingdung NC. That same drive time from Ocracoke, including the ocracoke/hatteras 1/2hour ferry, will put almost off the outer banks at the northern bridge. |

I'd take the ferry to Frisco then drive north. In 2.5 hours you can be up around VB vs way down in BFE. On the upside Swan Quarter is a quiet little place. Lake Mattamuskeet is really pretty, esp at sunset when the birds are settling in.
