Angry NJ Bear trap sabbateur trial: Animal Rights wacko threatens family!

VERNON — The Lake Wanda bear activist accused of tampering with a bear trap by spreading human urine around it appeared in Vernon Municipal Court on Tuesday.

Albert Kazemian, 50, also appeared on charges of threatening the children of another resident of the section of the Highland Lakes neighborhood which has been dubbed the county's "ground zero" for bear activity.

Kazemian did not comment about the latter charges, or questions about the jug of urine he has been accused of pouring on the bait trail leading to a bear trap in his neighbor's house on Woodside Drive.

But he did say the Department of Environmental Protection's claims that he trespassed on private property were "lies" and that he was only walking on a "public road."

"I did not trespass on anybody's property, I did not do any of those things," Kazemian said. "It's absolutely a lie and in the end, its going to come out."

Kazemian was arrested last Tuesday by Fish and Wildlife officers who observed him tampering with a trap. The officers had been monitoring the area for one week after the homeowner, Jennifer Spadaccini, reported observing and taking photos of Kazemian spreading urine around the same trap a week earlier.

"I don't even want to go there," Spadaccini said, when asked about the urine. "To be honest, as the homeowner of the house that's been surrounded by human urine, I'm really disgusted and grossed out that somebody would be so inconsiderate."

Kazemian has also been accused of threatening another Woodside Drive resident, Melissa Mead, on July 11, when Fish and Wildlife officers were "reconditioning" a bear by shooting rubber pellets at it near Mead's house.

Mead said Kazemian, apparently blaming her for the bear's treatment, asked her, "Melissa, why are you doing this?"

When she said she had nothing to do with it, Kazemian said, "You need to watch your babies because what goes around, comes around," according to the court complaint. He then repeated, "Go watch your babies because what goes around comes around."

Kazemian was charged with making terroristic threats, a third degree crime which will go before the Superior Court in Newton, court officials said. Kazemian has an intake appointment in Newton on August 7.

Kazemian has previously been arrested for hunter interference after an encounter with two southern New Jersey hunters and an undercover officer in Wawayanda State Park on Dec. 7, 2005. He was also charged with making terroristic threats at that time, but that particular charge was later dropped.

On Tuesday, Kazemian was also charged with two counts of obstruction of governmental function and for using a scent to prevent lawful taking of wildlife, and one charge each of obstruction of administration of law, resisting arrest and interference with a conservation officer.

These are all disorderly persons charges are punishable by up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine or both, Judge C. William Bowkley said.

Kazemian's arrest was the latest in a series of clashes between Lake Wanda residents and bear activists in this portion of Lake Wanda. The residents claim there are daily bear sightings and incidents, while the activists claim the residents are the only ones creating a problem.

Kazemian sat in the front row of Tuesday with fellow Lake Wanda residents Tom Smith, Susan Kehoe and Angie Metler, who are members along with Kazemian of the Bear Education and Resource (BEAR) Group, a black bear education and awareness organization which residents have described as a group of activists.

Mead and Spadaccini, among other Lake Wanda residents, were also among the court audience Tuesday, and said Kazemian's charges are only the latest in a string of incidents.

Mead said she has previously seen Kazemian tampering with bear traps on her property and standing in her driveway watching her.

Paul Guardiano, another Woodside Drive resident who attended Tuesday, said Kazemian once tried to enter his garage because he thought Guardiano had illegally shot a bear and was hiding the body.

"He scares the hell out of me," Mead said. "I don't trust him. I don't trust any of them."

Spadaccini said Kazemian has never threatened her or her family, but said when she was in the process of moving into her Woodside Drive house in March, Kazemian waited 45 minutes for her to arrive and then asked her what she thought about bears.

Spadaccini said Tuesday she has no problems with the bears, but is worried for the safety of her one-year-old daughter Gianna and her pet dogs and cats.

"This is what they'll understand, a mama bear always defends her cubs," Spadaccini said. "Well, I have mama bear syndrome, and I'm going to defend my child and my animals. Hopefully they'll understand that."

Kehoe, Smith and Metler did not comment at the court appearance, but in an earlier e-mail message, Kehoe said the residents have threatened the activists, and are harming the bears in order to make personal attacks against them.

"The truth of the whole matter is that we are being harassed and feel my safety, as well as others, is in jeopardy," Kehoe said.

Kehoe also said Mead has put signs in her yard encouraging people to shoot the bears, calling the activists "Bear Nazis" and making degrading comments about Kehoe's now-deceased husband.

Mead did say she had put signs on her property in the past, but said they have been taken down, and did not comment on what they said.

Kazemian said he was still choosing between two or three possible lawyers, all of whom advised him not to comment further

I hope this ass gets jail time as he racks up the charges.

Maybe a good idea would be to flood to local media outlets with phone calls, letters and emails voicing displeasure over this "gentleman's" choices of actions in voicing his opinion...

Susan Kehoe and Angie Metler and the rest of the NJ ARA wackos are trying drum-up support for this jerk's legal defense fund.

The same folks supporting this jerk - support the folks and the bills in my sig.

NJ is a haven for these morons.

Just yesterday the Asbury Park Press put out an article describing "how wonderful" these folks are...

Thumbs down

The anti-fishing, anti-hunting activists are just insane. They're just as bad as those pro-life radicals that bomb abortion clinics and murder doctors known to perform abortions.

This time they shouldn't drop the charges on terror threats.

If these folks love the bears so much then maybe they should be tranquilized and dumped out in the woods near a den. I'm thinking they will wish they had a gun at that point.

I had a feeling that would probably happen Like I said, with all of the guys and gals from NJ, you could reaaaaally cause them some problems by flooding, and I mean FLOODING every media outlet you can think of with some articulate letters, emails, phonecalls, etc. Yes, these people seem to be absolutely NUTS, but watch the wording... make sure that the wording is done so that there's no possibility that they can try the "but our opposition is a bunch of meanies" routine...

But the article talked about how peaceful and law-abiding the NJARA whackos were!!! I can't BELIEVE it. They wouldn't LIE, would they....

Tie him up next to a bear den and leave him there.

Anyone know if that Susan Kehoe is related to San Diego Senator Christine Kehoe?

It's somewhat hypocritical to support harm to the bears while wanting to do bodily harm to Vick for his alleged part in a dog fighting operation....

Guys, the only way to fight support for these idiots is to fight back. Pile on the letters. Pile on the emails. Pile on the phone calls. Keep it civil, but research as many of these types of stories as you possibly can. Start flooding the political hacks as well.

I think you may have misunderstood me....I don't feel 'activist man' would have much of a chance in the arena.....he'd be scented up good just to make sure the hungry bears got the idea.......

I'm on the bears side....and the dogs side.......
