I am coming the week of July 28th for the first time. Any suggestions? My 10 yr old son would love to get some fish. Is a head boat a good idea?

Thanks Robby. I take my son fishing here in Ohio. He has a lot of fun. He's never caught a saltwater fish. That would make the trip.

Fort Macon is a nice area to fish from shore also. There are bait shops on the Atlantic beach causway. Joe Shutes bait and Freemans bait will help you out.Head boats can be fun also.Search for the Carolina Princess out of Morehead city.Good Luck!

I will second Carolina Princess, they will put you on fish....Capt. Gould is exceptional. I drive by Freeman's and Shute's on the way to work every morning. Both are exceptional shops. The Reel Outdoors in Emerald Isle is also a reputable shop...they can point you in the right direction and help you get set up as well.
Email me when you get in town or immediately before you leave home.....I may have 28,29,30,31 of July free....it's a crap shoot, so I may not as well. I have 19ftr and 50ft custom sportfisher. I DO plan to do a trip offshore on one of those days...if the weather holds...and I don't get tied up. My target is dolphin (mahi), wahoo (ono), billfish....at 40-60 miles offshore. No charge to you, just bring your drinks and food. I will guarantee dolphin!! This is a $1400.00 trip normally....I do not charter, purely recreational....fuel is already covered...boat is private owned....if you didn't have a son who needed to fish, I would not ever offer. Myself, mate, maybe my 14 yo daughter, possibly 2-3 other folks...all professional, courteous, no need to worry about a bunch of drunks or riff raff. Though we will have a beer now and then while fishing. The boat is air conditioned, stereo, full salon (sofas, microwave, stove, sink, fridge/freezer, tv, full head with shower, queen stateroom, etc.) Caterpillar power. Fighting chair in cockpit, 60ft outriggers, 43 foot tower, flying bridge control station, etc.... email me at duckles40@aol.com with your schedule....I can take your wife as well if she desires to go. Any seasickness issues? I live in Beaufort and run out of Olde Town Yacht club between Beaufort and Morehead City....only 24 miles up the island from Emerald Isle. Let's make his first saltwater fish a bull dolphin!!!! I cannot turn around due to seasickness however....fuel, fuel, fuel. You can ride with 55 other folks and catch some bottom fish....or hopefully we can pull this trip off and put him (and you and your wife) on several fighting bruisers. I can send you credentials if necessary, just so you know you aren't fishing offshore with a pedophile or serial killer ![]() If all else fails.....we can take the skiff and let him catch 'something'! I currently have some repairs going on, but it will be ready by Saturday. Dropped a valve, ruined a cylinder liner, piston, head, and turbo. I will be running four days next week and if nothing happens I will run on those days above...at least one of them. Nothing like a kid on his first offshore drag screamer!!! Maybe a sailfish will feel lucky as his first one

Is tnrhmm still on here???? I noticed he only has two posts....possibly scratching for info anywhere he can get it....might not come back. I'll await the email....if not, you're missing the trip of a lifetime. I took my brother and his business associates out last week, as they put it, "Of all my vacations, this is the day that I will never forget. Had I known what I know now, I would have done this years ago and every year after." Here's pics:

I will also be in EI the last week of July (next week) and am looking for recommendations on fishing from the shore and from the pier.
I'm from Tampa and fish for about the same species as in EI (kings, trout, Tarpon, sharks, reds, etc.), but from my experience, tactics always vary form port-to-port. Any recommendations on what to rig up for King fishing off the pier, surf fishing (sharks and other stuff for my nephews)? What kind of bait works well up there? Should I bring my cast net for the pier? Do sabiki rigs work well for catching bait? What artificials do you recommend for specific species? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Okay. I don't have the email....however, if you sent to my email on "SOL" here, then it went to my work. If you sent it to duckles40@aol.com then I don't know what happened. Either way, we'll make it work. Check your PM and I'm sending my home phone number. Call me as the dates approach. If I'm not home leave a message. I'll call you back.
My sole desire is to put your kid, who has never caught a saltwater fish....onto a real saltwater fish for his first one!!! Bring him on!! ![]() Last edited by EricF : 07-13-2007 at 07:57 PM. Reason: . |

Sorry santiago....forgot to answer your question. For King Macks...we use a very stout and long spinning rod as an anchor rod. Then a normal Shimano TLD type reel or Penn Senator for the fighting rod. You cast your anchor rod and bungee it to the pier rail....then send your bait down the anchor with a snap swivel with a clothespin for a release...letting your live bait hang at the surface. Sharking is discouraged on the piers and on a lot of beaches....but doable. Cast netting from the pier is, well let's just say it isn't impossible, but I've never done it. You can 'snag' pogies, or menhaden with weighted trebles for bait...or use cut bait and catch small blues for king bait....which is what I prefer from the pier.
