The wife and I are kicking around the idea of a week in the OBX this year. I need to use a timeshare week and thought that Ocracoke would be the place. I'M open to suggestions about other places. This is strictly a hang out on the beach and fish with the wife trip. Maybe a charter or party boat or two.
Now for the questions: August or September? What species should I be targetting at that time of year? Can I drive on the beach? Do I need to? Required equipment list? I'll bring my jeep if I can. Looking forward to your help! |

Ocracoke is a great place for a family vacation. I personally would choose September over August. The further in to September you go, the better the surf fishing will be. The end of September usually has great beach weather for the wife and kids as long and a hurricane or tropical storm doesn't come along, but you also risk that in August. Blue, pompano, and puppy drum should all be around. If you stay on Ocracoke and want to catch big drum, book a charter with Norman Miller. Tradewinds Tackle is the tackle shop on the island. Driving on the beach is permitted and will offer you a lot more fishing access. Just remember to air down, watch your speed, and be mindful of the bird enclosures. Some good info on beach driving and closures is available at the NCBBA webpage http://www.ncbba.org and can also be found right here in the beach buggy forum.

Hello Mybeach, I will be in Corolla (Corova Beach) on 9/22/07 for a week with my wife and my mom, its moms birthday present. My wife and I just got back from there a couple of weeks ago, we rented a great house on the 4x4 beach. Well we liked it so much we are heading back, and I would not mind havin someone to fish with, as the ladies are not into it!
If you have a 4x4 look into renting a house on the 4x4 beach in Corolla, I would be happy to give you any info you need. |

Thanks guys, keep em coming.
I have a time share week already paid for, so I won't be renting a house. I'm trying to locate a resort that I can walk out onto the beach and jam a spike in the sand. How about coolers on the beach? Any problem having a few beers in the beach chair? I ask, because you know, I live in NJ, and there are lots of regulations..... |

just don't take it to extremes with the chillies. The park service will make a big deal out of drunk beach drivers as the fight for access continues dwon there. Try not to make us fishermen that enjoy beach access to be wrongly portrayed by those against it. September would be the better month in my humble opinion, the later the better. Could get lucky with a nice blue bite or an early drum run, but there should be pomps around and with a few good casts some spanish too.

NPS drives the beach and calls in to the state and they set at the ramps and look for small fish and DUI.S and your paper work 10 bucks for 10 days 30 for the year. Good luck and injoy nice fish that time of year

What timeshare do you have ??,we use RCI & they have units from Rodanthe to Corolla.
Most of the places are on beach or near beach. |

Point taken, but I would never do that. I'm talking about jamming a spike, dragging a hand held igloo with some bait and a few pops and plopping down in a beach chair for a few hours within walking distance of where ever I end up staying.

The farthest south "RCI" timeshares is Rodanthe. I have used them for many years. They are like 2 of them. You will have better luck in Nags Head area with a timeshare with this short a notice. We used to reserve over a year in advance
