Default How's Hatteras

I'm on vacation in Hatteras next week and was wondering what's going on in the surf after the storm. Looking for big ones (Cobia and Reds) and a couple pan size fillets. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is what I know. Major push of Cobia scooted around the point and is up towards Nags Head (Did not say they were all gone) there are some still around the point. Spanish are on the north side of the point. Trout and pups are in the sound and flatties are at the inlets (This year 14 1/2 ocean and 14 sound). For the trout we used rattle corks with about 24" of leader and any soft plastic. Good Luck

my guess is bunker and fresh bluefish. Think big baits.....like a whole bunker or bluefish.

Fishing has been tough this week as a result of the tropical storm that went by on Sunday. I've been looking for cobia, but the water has been just too dirty. It started cleaning up today and one 41" cobia was caught at the point on a yaked bait. The weather looks like it is going to be stable for a few days, so hopefully the cobia fishing will pick up.

You made the right call. The water started to clear up Friday and Saturday but the clear water stayed just out of casting range and there was just a little too much wind to paddle baits. I managed a pair of blacktips and a few yearlings with Norman during the week.

I still had a great time playing with the little one on the beach and sitting in the hot tub, watching the sun go down over the sound while drinking a beer.

I hear you about the drum. No big drum for me off the beach this year. I don't normally head that way in the fall, but I may have to make an exception this year.

Good luck this weekend!

More eating sand and laughing at the Pelicans when I lured them to us with fish. ')

Will do. I still need to properly break-in my new Fusion with a big drum.
