I'm going on a trip to Myrtle beach in August and i was wondering what species of fish I can expect to fish for in the surf?

flounder , spotted seatrout, drum around jetties. whiting and a ton of pompano in the surf. snappy blues on got-cha plugs. i would recomend huntington beach state park jetties if you dont mind walking 5 miles to the jetties and back.

Pompano and Spanish should be thick. Use gotchas for the spanish and sand fleas for the pompano. Sheepshead and flounder at the jetties too. You can catch pretty much everything in August, but nothing is really outstanding except for the pompano at times since they like the 85-90 degree bathtub water.
The walk to the Murrells inlet jetty from Huntington is only about a mile, but it's a good 45 minute walk. It is worth it if you know what you're doing though. |
