Thomg-
I'm also from SW PA (#2 worst air pollution in the US!!!), so take this as a vacationer to vacationer info, but usually do a good bit of reading up and toss just about everything I have. I was there mid June last year. There was some trout (weakfish) there, and will likely run into some blue fish. There is always talk of spanish makeral at that time of year, but might need to search around for them, or get closer to the beach. There are also puppy drum in there, but have never caught any. If you fish the beach around that area, there are spot, flounder, and pompano in the surf and if you're lucky a drum or cobia. A friend got a nice "puppy" drum last year (about 24"), which is tiny to the locals, but was fun for us. Inlet, try Fin S jigs or curly tails for the trout. The spanish makeral, which I am on a mission for, supossedly take shiny Gotcha plugs or casting spoons. I have also done pretty well in the past with squid strips on a 1/4 oz jig head, slowly bouncing off of the bottom. Flounder and croakers seem to like this. Would imagine killies (minnows) would work this way too. |
