and now you will probably have lots of company.

Don't mind me I'm just jealous because my new Suburban got rear ended this past weekend and blew my last chance to get in on some spring drum. Catch them up and I'll see you in June.

Mike, say it ain't so. The new 'Burb? Oh, man.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I hope ya didn't lose yer temper - I've seen ya angry.

Your right, pics might burn a spot ... but not an island. It's a guessin' game anyway. The winds/water temps might just push the bite up to False Point ... or Buxton.

You get that Fusion wrapped yet?

Yep, not six days after I picked it up I got wacked. I stopped for a firetruck, but unfortunately the guy behind me decided not to. Thankfully my wife had decided to take my daughter at the last minute. The guy made an honest mistake. What are you going to do? With any luck I'll be back rolling next week in time for Stripasuarus to mount a new rack for me.

Glad to hear you are catching some drum this spring. I may get down around the middle of May, if I decided to skip out on my mother-in-law's 60th birthday party. By then I might even have my Fusion done. Right now the butt wrapp and handle are done. Still need to find a place to do some test casting to get the guide spacing right.

BTW, would you be game for a trip with Norman that 1st week of June?

I would love that. Send me a PM with the details when you get the chance. If you need more than me, I bet I can talk Neil into it as well.

Speakin' of Neil, he used a Fusion Magnum to land that fish in the pic. He built it at the last minute so he could fish Monday and Tuesday. It looks terrible. He's gonna have to re-build that one for sure. Like he had the DTs when he wrapped it.

He finished the ferrule wrap early Sunday morning before he drove down. The expoy was still sticky for the trip. ****, he had bugs stuck to the damn thing by the time he got to Hatteras.

I'm glad to hear your wife had the baby with her. That's scary stuff. Glad to hear you're OK, too.

I'll give Norman a call this week and see what dates he has open. His boat can easily fish a four people so if Neil would want to come that would be cool and keep the costs down.

I have a couple of those last minute wraps laying around. Last one I did was a fly rod right before a trip to Cape Lookout. Got out on the boat and realized I had put a guide on the side of the blank. The first and only acid wrapped fly rod. One of these days I'll get around to rewraping it.

I leave Sat and get to fish for a week . God I hope the wind and water temps co-operate . Always get nervous seeing good fishing the few days before heading down. Generally leads to NE blow out.

newsjeff, any idea of the bait or tide those fish were caught on?

I like Ocracoke on a low tide.

But every fish I saw landed came after dark. On both sides of both tides.

Neil had bunker, spot, blue and mullet. I dunno if he threw a little of each or not. But I'm purdy sure most of them were landed on da bunker.

Nice fish, very cool photos.

I know that the island isn't in and of itself some big secret or anything, but I think posts like this would be just as enjoyable and just as valued as a contribution to the board, if they simply said "Great OBX trip..." or "Had good luck down south..." or "Great bite developed this week..." or something like that...I just don't see the "up side" or benefit to trumpeting the location here , particularly in the post title with several exclamation points.

Chris,

I'd have to disagree. Ocracoke is an island. I think anyone who has a very good sucess rate at catching drum know the ins and outs. NJ gave an island location, not a specific ramp number let alone hole... I mean i could post GPS cords, that would be specific. The name of an island.... not as much. I've seen your posts on PS about general locations for fishing next to Fletchers. But even so even the name FLETCHERS is way more specific than is the name of an entire island...

You caught a 56" drum. And a helluva striper. You helped spread the word on PS about access so your not a griswald. Lets be honest. Its ocracoke. You know as well as I do those that catch fish will catch fish, and just like as is the same up there people down south don't take kindly to being cramped out.

Now As a sidenote I know you guys up north have very different conditions and timelines to fish. None of the places jeff talked about, or the POINT for that matter are even close to being a secret. If you fish there you LIKE to fish in a crowd. if not theres 32 other miles on HI to fish and even more down in ocracoke. He wasn't burning a spot. I mean damn, Tradewinds baitshop has a report daily on the island, you know what I mean?

Again I know you guys up north have crap for access and the crowds in confined areas up there and fear of losing what little access you have make you not want to "burn" spots and I respect that. Quite a bit actually. But that aint how it works down south in the "hot spots". Knowing full-well that RDT/Tradewinds and PS if not the Fishmilitia are constantly reporting down there I don't see how you can get upset with Jeff about this one. I doubt but so many of the Folks on SOL are packing their fusions and 8ozs to head south. Also, I thought it was beneficial. I mean he got asked by a few folks some questions and gave some folks something to look forward to..... Thats the point of a report right? I mean i see some of these reports and I swear its just people bragging..... Hey i fished a blitz down in OBX. Means nothing, those folks reports are for bragging and for their friends to converse, not as a beneficial part of this board. Again I would just like to say that I do not agree he burned something up, and I would like to see reports instead of "obx" report. I mean i caught a fish somewhere on a long chain of islands means very little other than I want people to know I caught a fish.

Just my opinion.

oh and btw jeff. my rod looks fine. it looks better in rushed form than alot of shops sell
