Default End of May fishing

What is typically running during the end of May in the Outer Banks? I would think the red drum sweep back through but I couldn't find what time is good for them other than the big fall run. I have been down to the Outer Banks so many times but never any earlier than the end of August. I am coming down with my Brother to do a little fossil hunting and fishing and was wondering if I should head to the back back bay areas or hit the suds out front.

Thanks, John
