Default Morehead City Specks from shore

Got these after church yesterday. Just walking the beach and throwing plugs for a couple hours. Nice way to spend an afternoon:

Are you getting those along the ocean or just back in the bay?

If the wind is light from the N or NW the bite will be good on Bogue Banks. If it gets breezy there are some decent wading spots inside too.

Thanks for the info. I am getting excited as I will be visiting Altantic Beach next week. I have been to the area many times but always during the summer. I always heard you should be here in the fall, so this is the year nov. 4-11. Mostly I fish the ocean front along Altantic Beach or the inlet at Macon.

Again thanks for the info...........Ghost

Up in the main forum there a statement about worms in specs. I have never seen worms in specs and I was wondering what your experiences were?

The lure in the pic is a Mirrolure. The 52 M with the red back and belly and white in the middle with spots on it.
Today I got a big one from the same spot. 7.21 lbs on the scale at Freeman's! Rapala X-Rap in the clown color. I am a bit bummed that I ahd no camera with me except my cell phone that is not connectable. I need to be able to text message the pic to someone that can put it their computer and then email it back to me.

Looks like good eatin to me. Long time "mountain trout" angler here just getting into surf fishing. Looking to try my luck at the specs Turkey Day weekend. Just curious what you rod and reel setup is for trout in the surf? Have purchased a few of the Mirrolures but would like to have recommendations how to fish them. Do you use a slow steady (continuous) retrieve or do you "Walk The Dog" (jerkbate) with them?

My questions are open to anyone with some input.

Thanks in Advance.

I use an 8 ft light action rod that was originally purchased for steelhead fishign years ago. NOT a noodle rod. As far as fishing a Mirrolure goes. I like a slow retrieve interpersed with rod tip twitches. There is no great mystery but the #1 priority is that there be fish where you are casting it. I know that sounds dumb but if there is a school, they will bite. Make that thing look like it is having a tough time getting around and they will find it.
