Question Suggestions please...

I'm heading to HI Saturday, prob won't get there till about 9PM or so, coming back Sunday early evening.

As I'm fairy new at this, any suggestions as to set up or technique.

I've ordered a selection of plugs from SOL online store - they are sure to be there when I get home tomorrow (I'm in Baltimore on business) judging by the great reports on the forums. I may try a few of those.

Between me and the missus, we have to (cheap) 8' spinning combo, an 11ft (somewhat better) spinning combo, and my new Penn 525mag on an 11ft off the shelf rod. Planning on a lami for the Penn. Will probably buy another better quality combo for the wife while I am down there. I'm trying to support the local B&T as well as the online store . It's only money, and as neither me or the wife drinks, I have no beer expense .

Man...I'm rambling...

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll post pictures if we catch anything, but I know we'll have a good time anyway..

TIA,
Roger

ok
set the smaller spinner combo's up with a a simple king fish rig or a blue fish rig , ya can but them there ..
the larger rod rig for larger fish with a fishfinder rig ...
cut bait for both ..
as far as plugging goes the best spot is going to be at the Oregon inlet ....
depending on where you are staying frank and frans ; reddrum tackle ; hatteras jacks ; frisco rod and gun ; pelicans rooost will have whatever you need
check with them for what is in the surf and what to use ...

Thanks - I appreciate the help getting off the learning curve.

I'll be staying at Cape Pines, Frisco R&G is my place of choice - seems I cant go in there w/o dropping a Benjamin or 2 .

Have dinner at the Fish House. Simple, reasonably priced and top notch. Check out the crowd at the Point to see how the big time fishermen cast and work the surf there. But initially, at what seems your level of experience, stick to fishing 30 yards or more north or south of the crowd there.
Have you stayed at the Cape Pines before? If so, what do you like about it? I have never stayed in a motel before at Hatteras (rented houses) but am thinking of dong so this year and am looking for one I'd like.

We stayed at Cape Pines once before. It is under new management. It is a charming (older) hotel with quaint (older) accomidations. Look at their web site. The rooms are clean, and have everything you need. There is a big ice machine for icing down your cooler, and a fish cleaning station. I would definately reccommend it.

If I was going to stay for more than 1 night, I would consider nightly rental of a cottage - lots avaliabe this time of year. I rented a house in Buxton for Thanksgiving week for just over $600 all inclusive - the rent alone was $450. I thought that was very reasonable. That's just me, there is the advantage of being cared for when you stay in a hotel - clean linens and room every day .

Cut bait and bottom rigs are the way to go. Fresh mullet works best. Don't put a hook on bigger than your line can handle. The drum are here.

Every other year, I have gone for a week and rented a pretty luxurious house. Even all alone, it is the way to go. doesn't cost any more than a hoel room. Problem is this year, I may be able to be away from work for only 4 nights or so. House rentals get pretty pricey per night for that kind of stay.
