Post Introduction

Greetings from a new member. I found this forum (and the great online store) and decided I needed to join ASAP.

I've learned a lot perusing the forums - THANKS to all the people who take time to post .

I spent a fair bit of time at OBX when I was growing up, I have a picture of me at 3 or 4 years of age sitting on a jeep I believe on Jockeys ridge (cant' do that anymore). That was taken in 1959 or 60, do the math. My dad was a surf caster, but never taught me to surf fish, we did mostly piers. By the time I was old enough to handle a surf rod, my dad was not able to, due to an accident when I was 5. I lost my dad when I was 19, so we never we able to share in that knowledge (I do have a few good stories tho).

I later got into fresh water fishing - bass, brim, crappie.... My wife of 3 years fished when she was younger, ans expressed an interest in fishing again. She had never done any saltwater (grew up in Skokie). We decided to give it a try, went and bought 2 inexpensive combos, and decided - this is a good thing.

We have been a few times, experienced bad weather (norwester) with no bites, but still had fun. Have caught a few blues and some spot.

At this point, we are gearing up (hey, lets buy a rod/reel every time we go!). Gets a little more expensive every time we go, but well worth it.
I grew up bait casting, so decided I wanted to get 1 good rig for myself. Based on my reading here, I have a Penn 525mag on the way, and am considering a Lamiglass rod from our host.

I will be asking for more specific advice, so thanks in advance, and thanks again for all the advice that I have already picked up.

Fair winds, following seas, and tight lines,
Roger
