HI all, I have been browsing the boards for a while now and have finally decided to register. There is some great info on here which has been alot of help and hopefully some one can help me out here. I will be in Hatteras in a couple of weeks and I am looking for a charter reccomendation as well as some surf fishing techniques suitable for this time of year. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Benny,
Going to be in Hatteras last week in August myself. Have been going down for 7 years in August. Fishing is sort of slow at that time but you never know. Mostly if you are going on a charter you might want to target White Marlin. Can't realy give you a boat, The one I used to take was the Hunter out of Odens Dock but now he is in Pirates Cove in Manteo above Oregon Inlet. In June we went out on the Reliance out of Hatteras Village Marina. (Capt. John Canning) He use to be the mate years ago on the Hunter and he put us on fish. I stay in Avon. Fishing the beaches and sound for what ever is out there. Sometimes the Spanish run at the point and it's a blast. Good luck and have a great trip. Ron |

In the surf think small and have fun. Small blues, spanish and some early a.m. flounder in the suds. 7' rod with 12lb line will do the trick. If you chunk you'll get some big rays. I'll be in Hatteras Village 8-26 to 9-3 as well. I'll be on the surf in a Black Explorer with Thule Kayak Racks. I'll be at Hatteras Inlet or the Point for a few sunrises say hello if ya see me.

Going down next sat. to Avon for week & then up to Salvo for week.
I always take jersey chowder clams for the surf. They work well on the small fish that are around this time of year.Last year hooked large drum that ran me up the beach for a half mile or so till my # 4 hook broke. Red blazer with thule roof racks & black cooler/pole holder on front |

Thank's for the info. I will be there from the 16th to the 20th so it sounds like I'll miss everyone but I'll try to post a report.

I'll be down 8-25 through labor day. Basically been down there my entire life for family vacations, but only spent the last 4 fishing.
I normally walk to the beach with my rods and such, but am considering taking the Jeep out to look for some better fishing grounds, and to avoid the remaining little kids and swimmers. Any one recommend some good 4wd spots down by Frisco? I've been on the beach up at milepost #23 near salvo in years past but have yet to venture this far south. Anyone had any luck at #49 or #55, or should I just make the trip to the Cape Hatteras point and fish the shoals like everyone else? Thanks. |

The best way to fish Hatteras in from the beach with a truck or jeep. It makes a big differance compaired to walking on. Those ramps are OK. I go to the one near the lighthouse most of the time. I think it's 44 or 45. Go out to the point and if it's to crowded just go to the right. If it's all open you can drive to ramp 49 in Frisco. Stop in any tackle shop and they will have a map of all the ramps. They are not that far apart. Also if you take the ferry over to Ocracoke there is a nice spot at the end of the island. The ramp is almost across from Howards Pub reasturant. ( # 72 ) Good luck.

I will go down to the inlet in the evening for bluefish, sometimes nice blitz there Ramp at south end Salo is good for croakers. |

Thanks for the info. Think I’m going to head off on #49 and work my way up to the Hatteras point area one day, and probably try #55 and head towards the inlet another.
