Default Emerald Isle

I'm going to be in Emerald Isle from July 30-Aug 5. I was there last year and did a lot of surf fishing. I caught around 10 fish over that spand, but none of them were worth keeping. One of my friends caught a black tip shark and another hooked a sea turtle. Our best luck came using shrimp, blood worms, and live minnows. Any advise for surf fishing in Emerald Isle

Default Emerald Isle

We usually go to Hatteras Island for vacation. Wifey is looking at Emerald Isle this year. I have a few questions for folks. Is there ORV access to the beaches? Are the piers there decent for fishing? Does anyone have a good link to check fishing reports in that area. We usually do some surf, some pier and some sound fishing. I was wondering what we should be focusing on.. Looks like we'll be there in late August (19th - on).
Thanks in advance, regards.

Default emerald isle

To t58martin, bogue inlet pier is probably the most productive pier on the crystal coast. In recent years i've caught tons of fish during the mid to late august weeks. there's blues, flounder, pompano, croaker, seamullet, spanish and king mackerel, pinfish, spot, drum and plenty others. The fishing isn't extremely productive b/c of the water temp. but it's worth the trip to the pier. the website is *******************. they have reports about every 5-7 days.
please do not post links to other sites , thanks derf

if u usually make a trip to hatteras, keep going to hatty. alot more fish up that way. specially this time of year. its dead here except some sharks from the beach. hatteras is getting some big sharks, pups, flounder, pomps, mullet, and they had a little spanish run the other evening, if i could go there i would.

u cant drive on the beach around here til sept.

basically because the beaches arent very big here, and tourists / swimmers take most of the room..

but we can drive in the fall so thats good enuf for me..

Yeah. No fish here. Nobody should come here. Especially not in October or November. Especially not to surf fish for things like this;

Capt. Gordon, Would the man on the right be "The Waterdog"? Nice Specs by the way.

Not the same as weakfish, but close. Around here they use the name gray trout for weakfish. I don't know why. These fish are speckled trout. If you look closely you will see the markings on the side each look like individually air brushed spots. Weakfish markings are more like squiggly lines.
...and yes that is the Waterdog.

October, November. Calm NW breeze (under 20 k). Fish Bogue Banks from Atlantic Beach to Emerald Isle. You can get a beach driving pass from EI town hall ($50). Only good from fall to early spring. Mirrolure 52's. Go to the Reel Outdoors tackle shop in Em Isle and see what colors are almost gone. That will be the hot one. Decent spots all along the beach from Bogue Inlet back to Salter Path. Look for the sloughs.
About 1 1/2 hrs from Kinston.
I'm going to spend more time with the flyrod on the beach this fall.

What is your preferred tackle in the surf when targeting the specks?
