Default Guide Recommendation Needed

Afternoon everyone.....I'm looking to find a good charter boat (6 ppl max) that runs out of the Orleans area for a full or maybe half-day on Friday, June 30th. We'd like to target whatever is running offshore...I used the search function but couldn't find anything that was turning up in the Orleans area. I did find the Rock Harbour Charter Service online as well as RECON Fishing Charters but I thought I'd register here in hopes of getting some good honest info from the local guys who are out there just for fun and not for the money. Over half of the people that are going on the trip are experienced inshore and offshore fishermen from Florida so we were hoping to get on some fish!! Thanks in advance and tight lines!

My cousin owns Captain Cook Charters right in Orleans, Paul Plansky - lots of years experience - you WILL catch fish.

tper - Headhunter out of Chatam - found him, thanks!!! I do a lot of spearfishing in the Gulf of Mexico and one of the best commercial spearfishing charters in my area is called the Head Hunter. Coincidence? I think not.

Here's a pic of Dan (the Captain) and the 403 lb Warsaw grouper that he shot at 425 feet

Only with the right equipment, training, experience, oh, and a big enough sack

Default Now that's a fish

Another captain that I've been going out with for the past 4-5 years is Bill Strakele. He does light tackle and fly fishing for bass, blues, tuna, etc. Check out his website at Outercapeangling.com. We have had some great trips with him. He finds fish when there seems to be nothing going on. He is a great guyt to hand with while on the water. Good luck.

Does anyone know the exact deal with the Piping Plovers? Surfcasters are able to walk out on most beaches to fish correct? I'm heading to Wellfleet next week and don't want to be shocked to find out I can't fish any where?

PILLZ - He a commercial guy, doesn't take clients. Try to set up a trip with Jim on the Jolly Rogers II, here's the link http://www.jollyrogersii.com/index3.htm These guys run one of the best spearfishing charters in the entire State.

If you do a search on Jolly Rogers on http://www.spearboard.com you'll find many trip reports filled with pictures.

Okay guys.....here's the trip report. After a call to the Head Hunter and finding out he was booked solid he recommended me to Tom Barker, a local out of Harwich who runs the Tuna Eclipse out of Allen Harbour. Be sure to check out his website here --> http://www.tunaeclipse.com/

I can't say enough of good things about Tom......he put us on the fish in no time and that's what we came out for The six of us met him at the dock at 7.30 am sharp and we had our first hook up around 8.30ish-9, a triple header at that and all 3 keeper stripers were landed. Here's a shot of the second hook up.....a double header, hey, we tried for the hat trick but couldn't get it

Here's a couple close up shots

Me

I could smell the grill already....

End of the day....

We started the day jigging a large rip with standard tackle and landed some really nice fish in the 32-36 inch range. Finished up the day using eels on light tackle and I landed a nice 33 incher and my buddy landed that flounder pictured above on the left. We had a total of 32 people up in Orleans for a family reunion so every last bit of the fish picture above was properly filleted and consumed with lots of beer Total catch of the day was 9 keeper stripers in the 32-36 inch range, 2 blues around 12-15 lbs, and one nice flounder.

The 6-hour trip was perfect and would definitely recommend Tom and his Tuna Eclipse to anyone who wants to get out there and catch some fish. A few of us are trying to make plans to come up just for the weekend to go tuna fishing with Tom in late August early September.

Thanks to all you guys who provided information on the charters.......good luck and tight lines!!
