Typical Newbe Questions

Hey everyone! I have a couple questions that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. I've been to the OBX a couple times fishing around the point. This time down I'm going to have my kids with me this time and we are staying in a soundfront rental in Salvo the last week in May. Besides the surf and pier, is anything usually going on the sound if I were fishing from the dock?
