Angry Bird Closures

Starting March 28th this year. Looks like Cape Point included. Not sure anyone knows how much of the point will be closed but sure seems early. Hope this isn't a future statement "Remember those days when you could drive out to the Point in April/May and Drum fish. Those were the days"
I think I am slipping into a deep depression.

Has anyone seen any maps of the closed areas yet?

I believe the NCBBA site or OBPA sites have links to the maps of the proposed closures. As I recall the maps are on the last few pages of a long a$$ proposal. Unless something changed in the last few days they were not set in stone as to which version they were gonna use.
Besides the obvious closures at the point if they dont change from last year the Inlet is cut off too. Supposedly theres a corridor for access but I have serious doubts about that too.

The news release states that the closures are defined in the Interim Protected Species Management Strategy. I did some searching and think the maps are in Appendix D. Here is the link: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document...cumentID=13760

It's been 2 years since I went to Hatteras, but I was royally ticked off with the NPS for closing so much of the beach down last year. Over what, a dozen chicks or so?

I remember seeing pics of the beach barricades on another site, and that really mad me angry. I know the beach was closed to vehicular traffic, but am not sure if pedestrian access was also cut off, though I believe it may have been.

A 100 foot corridor is just about the same as closing it all together. This sucks. With a little onshore wind and a full or new moon, not much room left. It's depressing.

Sounds like they don't need my family's nor my friends' buisness this spring and if this isn't corrected by fall,
I'll skip that trip also. I don't know what percent of the economy is related to beach fishing dollars, but
apparently they don't need it, so I'll spend mine elsewhere.

sorry but they do need your business ...
it's not the locals who are doing this , it is a group of ecowaco's who want to close the beaches to all orv traffic .
the one who are leading the fight against this are the tackle shops and the local motels ; THEY NEED YOUR SUPPORT !!!

I was going to post a question in the main forum asking advice on where to spend my summer vacation, I had narrowed it down to Cape Hatteras,N.C.--and--Brant Beach, N.J.
This might make choosing just a little bit easier.

Would a couple sacks of cat chow help the resident fox population?

The world is almost full of complainers, who threaten this & that. If you don't like what is happening here, join our fight against the Wacko's. Put up some money, join the OBPA or NCBBA. That IS doing something positive. Bellyacheing & posturing don't cut it. We need your help, not just in the summer, but all year. Joining us in our fight for the beach is what will help most. We are winning this fight, we have won one lawsuit, it cost over $150K. A small contribution on your part will help for the next one.
