So we just moved to VA, and are planning on doing some boating in the OBX. Can anyone tell me if a 22' Robalo can handle the ocean around the OBX. I grew up boating on Long Island, and can get our on calm days otherwise I am stuck in the bays. But I have heard the NC coast is much calmer then the LI Coast.
Any input would be appreciated. |

Follow locals in the inlets, till you learn the areas. The channels are always shifting!

As in all inlets, outgoing tide & onshore wind the inlets get very sporty.
Lots of water dumping out of Pamlico Sound on certain winds & new/full moon tides. Taken my 17' out on good days and, on bad days, 60' is too small. On good days, lots of feeshing opportunies within distance. Pick your days and bail on the least hint of bad weather. Convergance of Pamlico Sound, Gulf Stream & Labrador Current can created rapidly changing weather. |
