My Dad and I would like to make some rigs to take with us this summer. I have been able to find some info and pictures but nothing that give specific measurements of the placement of the hardware, hardware used and line weight used. We'd like to put together some fishfinder rigs, some with breakaway impact shields, but if you have any suggestions of rigs that work for you in early June and would like to share directions on how to tie them we'd welcome the info. Salt water is new to use so we have no idea what we're doing but that's half the fun. I've found that have the fun of a trip is in the preparation which is what we're doing over the winter months here in Ohio.
Thanks, DS |

Heres the basic fishfinder rig. Hook size/choice may vary as well as the knots. You dont need a Mcmahon snap, a coastlock will work.
I tie mine like this except I use a Daichi 13/0 circle hook, my running line is doubled with a bimini twist and tied to the shock with a slim beauty knot and my swivel knots are both 3 turn unis. Here's how you cut a bunker to make the baits aerodynamic for casting. Bunker will likely be your bait of choice for cobia. ![]() |

This is what I use, lengths of the leader may vary and as Plug said, the hooks and knots may vary as well..
Mustad 13/0 circle, with three wrap nail knot as the "snell",three wrap clinch to swivel in the 100 so as to make the leader the length I want. You can crimp instead to get the desired lengths of leader you want as well.. In this case it was an inch.. The shorter length can aid in casting. At the other end of the leader I have 50 shock attached to the swivel with a uni knot. To attach the shock to the running line there is a bimini in the running line attached to a uni-nail combo.. You will also see a bead on the shocker. If fishing in crowded spots this prevents the sinker from riding up and getting hung on the shock knot while fighting a big fish. ![]() |

Oops...
That was a regular straight shank hook. I use the same knot,a nail knot to snell as well.. This is the same rig, only it has a 10/0 gami j hook..![]() |
