I am toying with the idea of making a midwinter road trip to North Carolina either this year or next year depending on the answer to this question. In terms of the calendar which period of time in January-February would be the most productive in the Wilmington- Oak Island vicinity.

I want to target Stripers from the beach.I also would appreciate suggestions as to using bait or plugs.
Thanks,
Marc

Tough to say right now. This weekend was shorts and a tee shirt weather. Warm temps got things screwy but I have been catching since the second week of Dec. They are there now just look hard for places out of the ordinary.Fish are along the beach from Corrola to Buxton. The key is to try everything. I have cought all my fish on Storms but there are guys catching on FRESH bunker

Thanks for the reply-I guess what I'm trying to ask is traditionally what dates during the Jan-Feb months is the fishing usually the best or for that matter is Dec. a better time.
Thanks,
Marc

The Wilmington area doesn't have many Stripers. Up here, Hatteras island, fishing for them from shore is starting to get spotty at best. Later this month it will drop way off. If you come for Stripers in the surf, dec. is the best month. Jan. is good with a boat. Feb is not good for either.

You have to check with some of the tackle shops farther south(Wimington area) to see what they are doing.
Side note- in the last couple of days on Ocracoke Island they have been catching a few big Drum. Check Tradewinds tackle website.
