Got back last night from one tough fishing trip to the so-called "Promise Land"...

Fished the OBX from last Thursday (Jan 12) to yesterday morning...

Thursday afternoon and night was relatively calm compared to what was coming over the weekend... Anyway, we concentrated our efforts around OI...nothing but small sharks and skates in the afternoon, but after dark we started tossing lures and rigged eels... I had 1 fish on that I lost in the final waves...maybe 20#. My buddy got 2 nice fish—41" and 42", both on the eels...

Friday we tried hard north of OI...other than sharks and skates, nothing!

Saturday and Sunday was tough fishing...that blow all but killed the effort...we could not hold w/ 12 oz, beach access was interrupted because of high tides and the blowing sand was intense...

Monday it was barely fishable in the early am, but that afternoon my buddy landed a 36" Striper... Monday night was slow...even the sharks and skates were gone...and no Stripers!

This morning, slow again...a few sharks and skates, bit no Stripers!

That blow was something else...I recorded 42 miles/hour on my handheld anemometer!

Grand total of 3 Stripers and none caught by me...

Sounds like from reading the reports out of the Oregon Inlet Fishing Fleet that having a boat certainly seems to make the difference.

Fish seem like they are way north of the OI.

Sorry you had such poor luck.

Poppy, fish were in the wash 20 feet from the sand for a few hours 40 miles north from you at "Noah" early Friday morning for a few hours.

We found them with the boat, needless to say surf fishing was miss-miss-miss......
