Mike, I along with 7 other guys fished most of the first week of January. January 4th seemed to be the magic day. I landed two stripers (46 & 34 inch)within an hours time. The Point reported from Red Drum Tackle had (5) more big striper and of course the big striper run in Kitty Hawk. We also heard locals bragging about a great striper catch from Avalon Pier. All this said, not one of us caught another striper the entire week running to Sunday the 8th. We fished hard from Hatteras Inlet to Oregon Inlet and all beaches in between from sunup to sundown. It was more 'miss' than 'hit'. I also heard reports of stripers in large numbers off Cedar Island. The boats going out of Oregon Inlet Sunday was a staggering sight to see. How they fared I didn't hear. I read all of the internet propaganda prior to going down....and have learned it is mostly just that. The weather screwed our plans as nobody was able to hold bottom due to a front that turned the winds on us. The rip currents were too strong on all beaches with good holes. That's my report from NC Outer Banks from Jan 3rd-8th.

I get down there 2 or 3 times a year for about 10 years now and look forward to reading some of the posts here. Hell it's always feast or famin down there but I think thats why many of us love it. It's a challange with great rewards. Like the awesome Spanish blitz we had last Sept. off the beach or those big rays in hatteras inlet that spool me every August

I hope I can afford to retire down there some day.

boat fishing has been real good this wk. everyone that's been catching has been running south from Rudee Inlet down to the Corrolla Light & golfballs south to research pier around Duck. It's been hot w/ most fish in the 36"-48" bracket. Seen alot of shore fisherman w/ johnboats & launching from the beach too... It's been in the mid 60's all wk. so the fish are loving it, lot's of bait & whales too. I mean in 10'-15' water!!

There have been decent numbers of stripers caught the past few weeks, as well as a few drum.

But everyone knows all the fish are really at IRI.

I am catching fish nearly everytime I go out in the kayak. I Have only been skunked one time this year out of about 16 kayak trips. I have ben dving to where I know the fish have been the last few days though, but have jumped on some random bites also. The winter run is far from over and I say it should get better unless the ocean decides to get too rough to deal with.
