Question

I would surely appreciate some advice on the Wilmington area for a long Thanksgiving weekend vacation/fishing trip.

I have never been anywhere near this area and would like to take a look see.

General areas to stay, fishing opportunities, sightseeing, restaurants, etc.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Ken,

Wish I could help you other than to tell you to go as far south as you can to the beach access at Fort Fischer (past Kure Beach and Carolina Beach), just south of Wilmington. There are some big box stores there (Dick's) and most of the small tackle shops that I knew have long since closed, just don't get that way since my sister left the area about 15 years ago. If you google red drum tackle and post a message for Tommy Farmer (Wilmington resident and current US casting champion) I'm sure he'll answer you and provide more current information. Good luck...

Ken,

I Live in Wilmington and I fish Wrightsville Beach. I mainly kingfish off of the pier, but by then that will probably be over. There still should be some nice drum and flounder in the surf, along with specks. That is usually when I begin to fish for specks in the surf on artificials. There are some good shops around here in Wilmington that could definately help you out. If you want more info, just let me know.

Yea, there is fishing around here then. Trout, Drum, flounder. All the usuals. Youll have seagull B&T down on the beach after the lake. Thing is though, to drive on Fort Fisher is $10.00 daily, or $40.00 yearly. But its a good deal, the beach will not be crowded. Drum fisherman will come out in the evenings. The North end of CB is also available to drive on, the prices are the same too. Maybe a little more beach goers though. There are plenty of Mom and pop places to stay, as well as a marriot and microtel. You find just about everything youll need. Tight lines! Ry

Im also from Wilmington.Whatever kind of fishing you want here youve got it, pier fishing (i like carolina beach pier over kure beach), if youve got a 4x4 you can drive on the beach and surf fish and camp out with campfires, tents etc. and the drum are running good right now.plenty of places for inlet fishing. Trout are hitting pretty good off the rocks at fort fisher.
Plenty of historical sites from revolutionary to civil war.
If you like, I.M. me or email me and ill give you my # in case you need someone to show you around or just need some help. My wife and i are planning on staying in town this thanksgiving and most likely fish
