NPS Reopens Hatteras Inlet Spit
NPS has told OBPA that access to Hatteras Inlet Spit will be reopened at 6 AM Wednesday, July 27th. The reopened area includes all of the ocean beach, the Rip, and around the soundside for about 100 yards.

The piping plover chicks in this area have fledged, prompting the reopening. NPS will continue to monitor the activities of the plover and reopen more of the sound beach as bird movements allow.

Now that the nesting season is over, some plover have been sighted feeding on the sound beach. However, it is thought that these plover are migrators and not "local" birds.

More when it becomes available.
