Been catching a lot of squat down here lately, but was finely able to get the skunk off this morning with a nice bluefish on the second cast as it gobbled up my finger mullet. It was the only fish I saw caught this AM. Water was beautiful, temps in the lower 80's. Last week blue water was less than a mile off the beach and they were catching nice sized dolphin within sight of the beach. The sound is filled with baitfish, which I hope is a good sign of thnigs to come in the fall......

You got skunked because they are waiting for me to arrive on 8/20. I can't wait, but I will be leaving some great fishing here at home. IT has been a good year so far with lots of action in the way of bluefish and stripers (mostly schoolies). Have you fished Fort Macon area where I usually do most of my fishing? Hope you are having a great summer.

Haven't made the Fort yet this summer as my fishing times tend to be from sun up to about 9AM, when I have to go and take care of the honey-do list..... Been hitting the Bogue Inlet area and it has been very interesting with the transition of the beach.
The Army Corp of Engineers built a dike to change the channel in the inlet with a secondary goal of saving a bunch of ocean/inlet front houses that were about to fall into the water. As a result of the dike, the beach has been changing very rapidly. Areas that last winter had the waves at high tide erroding the sand dunes now are more than 50 yards wide at high tide (and significantly wider at low tide). Sand bars and sloughs appear, disappear, and migrate on nearly a weekly basis. Seems to be changing so rapidly that the fish have difficulty in keeping up. Hopefully, we might get a chance to wet a hook, but we will not be down on the weekend of the 20th, but will be there the following weekend, if you are still around. If you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail or PM me and I'll do my best to help you out. My best advice is to come down with the intent of relaxing and having a great time (without the intent on catching a lot of fish).

I always have a great time and catching fish is not that important Sometimes I think the pole is just an excuse to spend time with my feet in the water. I think we will miss each other as my stay is from Sat to Sat. Have a great season!

if you want to "hit it" first thing on your last saturday there, would be happy to join you. i have been getting lots of finger mullet off the dock to use as bait when not tossing metal and usually hit the beach right around 6am and am done usually before 9am. let me know....
unfortunately, the wife has to book her weeks as a artist in residence at the united arts booking fair saturday the 20th, otherwise we'd be there. the oldest son and his wife (and friends) are taking advantage of our absence.......

I will have to pass on that offer, as much as I would enjoy it getting up a five to fish from 6 to 9 the thought of then driving 12 hours home is just to much for this old man.
Thanks again and if anyhting changes let me know. |
