Will be in the area mid August and I am already starting to think about which rods to bring. Purely beach fishing. I'm a tackle junky so I probably have it all from surf to fly and all the in between. I always bring too much.
I am leaning toward my lighter rods thinking I will be throwing lots of smaller jigs and tins to spanish, small blues etc.
Does this sound about right or are there other suggestions?

Spanish, small blues, pomano, etc.... although there have been some tarpon hooked (none known as landed ) at that time of the year. I have a place near Altantic Beach, PM me with the details and I'll help you out the best I can.

read my post on the Gulfstream Party boat trip and you will see how I fish for King Mackerels for 75.00 a trip. Also you will need lighter rods for the surf at Atlantic beach 12 lb line, small lures for casting and smaller hooks with shrmp or blood worms for the surf fish. Lots of small bluefish in the surf too. Good luck.

Since I fish mostly with artificial, I use a 10'6" rod rated 1-3oz for 2 oz stingsilvers. The surf typically doesn't have the current requiring much weight to hold bottom. One of my friends who fishes everyday there uses an 8' rod rated to 1oz throwing mostly 3/4oz metal, on 10# test with a smallish reel (between a Penn 4300 and 4400). It all depends upon what you like doing. As for me, I enjoy tossing my stuff out over the bar to where I hope some bigger fish may lurk, thats why the 10'6" rod. Do a google for Dr. Bogus and he provides a fishing report that is/was free for general information and subscribers get a more detailed version.
