I am a transplant from the Nags Head area moving to the orehead City area and was wondering if i could get some pointers on decent spots to wade for specks, reds, flounder. I feel awkward after having spent so much time fishing the northern OBX to come to a place where I know NO spots at all.

Thanks

Wading around Morehead is a challenge. The bottom of the sound is goop mud (much like Off Island slough), rather than the hardpack sand you're used to at the Propeller and the old CG station.

There's plenty of good fishing along the oceanside- just fling your curlytails and stingsilvers in the holes and guts like you would at Coquina.

lots of boat fishing back in the sounds and rivers, and "spots" are few and far between on the ocean side. beach is typically really flat without a lot of structure, so it doesn't hold fish, as they tend to swim to a holding location. we have a place in emerald isle and spend most weekends down there. send me a PM and we'll exchange information and i'll take you around to the places that i know stand a pretty good chance of "hooking up". you are in for a BIG change regarding the style of fishing that you are used to doing...
