Alligator River bridge on Fri morning. Winds N 35-45, waves 2-4ft and very very white. Not a great shot, but you get the idea...

Was in a similar gale on April 15 and took this picture on Nags Head beach. Hope I attached the picture right.

John:

I got 1 (thanks for the tips) on Sat night (4/30). Not a 90lber but a solid mid 40's fish. Taped out at 47 x 28. Hopefully will have a decent pic in the next few days.

Apparently the fish were there wed thru sat. Then the wind changed. Tried the rest of the week but nodda. Good looking conditions sun, mon, tues, and wed but no drum. Obviously wind is important

"blowing 35-40 knots". Sounds like striper weather to me. Too rough in the surf, try the sound around the hi-rise bridge, Manns harbor Bridge, Little Bridge, Bodie Island Light, or anyplace you can get a jig head/Rat-L-trap, etc in the water and there is structure. Can't keep them after 4/30, but lots of fun to catch on light tackle. For some reason, the stong NE winds turn the stripers on in the sound.

All the bad weather is out of the way, right, right.? I heading down on Sunday for a week. I was hoping for a shot at some early cobia, but I guess the odds aren't looking too good for that. Bring on the SW wind and the drum!
